I decided to try some Thomastik Infeld JS113 flats on my Eastman and wow they sound great! The tension feels great against the pick, and the tone is punchy and warm. They have a nice even volume across the strings and up the neck… fantastic strings! Check ’em out: https://amzn.to/3uAXBiY
Tortex Pitch Black Jazz III vs Dunlop Flex vs Classic Jazz III guitar picks
My search for a Jazz III that sounds like an orange Tortex has ended. The Tortex Pitch Black Jazz IIIs are exactly what I was looking for.
There is something about the clicky sound of a medium pick against the strings of an acoustic guitar that I love, and the Pitch Black Jazz III picks get it just right.
In this video, I compare the Pitch Black to classic Jazz III, as well as the Dunlop Flex Jazz III. Out of all of them, I felt like the Pitch Black had more of the “jangly” acoustic guitar sound that I was listening for.

Trying Thomastik Infeld Jazz Swing 11-47 JS11 Guitar Strings
These strings sound great! They are punchy and even but they don’t have an overstated midrange. They are warm but not dead. Awesome stings!
Going up to 11 with the TI Jazz Swings didn’t feel a whole lot heavier than regular 10s. The strings have a great feeling balance against the pick. They are almost snappy feeling, but they still have the tension I like.
The G string is wound and when you bend strings it will kind of roll under your finger, so if you need to be able to really bend then you might want to grab a single G string.. something between .17 and .19 will do the job.
Since the time I filmed this video, I’ve used them on my Telecaster as well. I like them more than I liked the Chrome 10s. They are currently my favorite flat wounds.

Dunlop Tortex Flex Jazz III Guitar Picks Review
I wanted a pick for acoustic that sounded like an orange Dunlop Tortex but felt like a Dunlop Jazz III. I have been using Jazz III exclusively for more than a decade now, and regular size guitar picks feel huge to me!
There is something special about the sound of a medium thin pick with an acoustic guitar. I absolutely love the tone of an orange Tortex pick, but I just can’t get over the size.
I set out on a quest to find a thinner pick that was the size of a Jazz III. The Tortex Flexe does a pretty good job of balancing the sound and feel I was looking for.

Trying D’Addario Chromes Extra Light
These D’Addario Chromes Extra Light flatwound guitar strings were a great stepping stone to flats. They have some midrange punch without sacrificing the flatwound sound. When I reviewed these I was playing 10-46 on most of my guitars, so the extra light 10-48 string gauge was an easy transition.
